International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch tried to sweep
doping under the carpet to protect IOC interests. "Samaranch wasn't interested in the

Pound said were it not for the 1998 Festina team cycling scandal at the Tour de
France where officials found a carload of performance-enhancing drugs and
the police raided team hotels to find more drugs, things would not have changed.

Doping has since become an even bigger problem in world sport, again seriously
damaging the image of cycling during the Tour de France in 2006 and 2007.

Pound said the Festina scandal essentially led to the creation of WADA  as the
credibility of the IOC and the international federations had been greatly undermined.

A Gut And A Goatee Not 'Lovely' Enough

mady | 24 October, 2007 14:41

Ryan Gosling dropping out of The Lovely Bones right before principal photography
was to begin on the Peter Jackson movie based on the Alice Sebold novel. Really,
the b.s. on the blogosphere is amazing. He happened, according to a good source:
"Ryan's 26.

The character of Jack is 36. Ryan and Peter both believed that if he put on a
little weight, and perhaps added a beard, that it would age him up. In the end,
Ryan felt he couldn't make the age leap in a way he felt good about. Another
source confirms there won't be any lawsuit, but tells me about friction which
was tantamount to a "battle of wills"

jackson "had a very hard time" with Gosling's putting out a million ideas  of
he wanted to do without taking into account Jackson's own directorial vision.
"Jackson didn't want to work with him after spending time with him in Pittsburgh,"
the insider says, "And the thought wasRyan went overboard with the weight gain"
and showed up way too heavy. so  mark wahlberg took gosling's place in the
Dreamworks production.

Marie Osmond Faints on Dancing with the Stars

mady | 23 October, 2007 18:37

Dancing with the Stars has had some odd moments but Monday night may have taken the cake
as Marie Osmond waited until after her Samba with Jonathan Roberts to fall.

Osmand and Roberts were standing before the ‘DWTS’ judges when she became
light-headed and dropped to the ground. As Osmond lay out cold, host Tom Bergeron
for a commercial and the audience was forced to wait a few  more minutes  to find
the celebrity singer/actress was doing.

Bergeron assured fans that Osmond was alright and the “Paper Roses” singer had just lost her
 breathe after the dance.

While the news of Osmand’s health was good  she certainly didn’t elicit any  sympathy
points from the judges as she was handed a 21 out of 30 to put her on the bottom of the
scoring sheet alongside Mark Cuban.

Composer Tan Dun to employ "organic music" in Olympic production

mady | 23 October, 2007 10:51

001aa018ff9c088648d302

Chinese musician Tan Dun has said that he is “organic music” in the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympic Games.
Organic music will include natural elements of water and paper and also Chinese Olympic stars “movements”.
Such as the basketball hits of Yao Ming and the starting of a hurdle race of Liu Xiang. Tan won a Grammy and
Oscar award for the soundtrack of the movie, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”.

Oscar-winning Chinese musician Tan Dun said at an ongoing arts festival that he is going to employ "organic music"s-
natural elements such as water and paper - in his rock-and-roll production for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Tan, winner of the Grammy and Oscar awards for his soundtracks of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon",  had participated
in music production for Beijing's 2008 Olympic Bid Film. The native of central China's Hunan Province is one of the
musical planners for the opening ceremany, award granting ceremonies and a theme song for the Beijing Olympics.

"They are natural sounds embodying sports passion, which are quite touching," said Tan, adding that in his eyes the three
are all musicians because he could "see colors and hear music in their movement rhythm".
Tan is currently testing his idea of bending these sounds of movement in rock music. It was said he had put microphones
under the water of Shanghai Swimming Pool to record the sounds created by divers.

Tan's "organic music" attempt, beginning at the end of the 1980s, incorporates sounds and instruments from the natural
world - water, wind, ceramics and paper - to create a new type of "experiencing music", which also echoes traditional
Chinese culture of "human life being in a highly harmony with nature".

the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, which will run through a month, has become a major cultural gala and
an artistic pageant.

mady | 22 October, 2007 10:42

Paul Raven (MINISTRY, PRONG, SOCIETY 1, KILLING JOKE, GODFLESH, MOB RESEARCH):

"Paul Raven was the most stand-up guy the pleasure to work Raven is that after working together he made an effort in the following years to stay in touch even if it was just to drop you a quick message to let you know he was keeping an eye on you. A great musician and a great person. I will truly miss him."

Paul Raven played bass on SOCIETY 1's "Exit through Fear" album and did a brief tour with the band in support of the CD.

Two Dimensions

mady | 22 October, 2007 10:09

sander_two_dimension_300_01

The space is defined by two dimensions.
The vertical dimension:

The vertical dimension describes the impetus of the design research approaches.
The top half (i.e., design-led) design research methods and tools that have been introduced into practice from a design perspective. The lower half (i.e.,research-led) contains design research methods and tools that have been introduced into practice from a research perspective.

It is easy to see that in 2006 the lower half of the space is more densely populated than the top half. So, to date, design research has been influenced more by researchers than by designers. But this is changing rapidly.

The horizontal dimension:

The horizontal dimension describes the mindsets of those who practice and teach design research. It is a bipolar dimension. in fact think of the right and the left sides of the space as two distinct cultures of design research. The left side exemplifies the expert mindset. At the bottom of the left side, the researcher is the expert. Researchers talk about the people that they do research on as subjects, or informers or users.

The people are asked to respond to certain stimuli and/or observed. At the top of the left side, the designer is the expert who creates things to probe or provoke response from the people who are often referred to as the audience. The designers might also create things to provoke and/or communicate with other expert designers. The expert mindset is all about designing for people using specialized skills and expertise.

The designers the people benefit from design into the design process as partners. The participatory designers and researchers respect the expertise of the people and view them as co-creators in the process. The participatory mindset is about designing with people.
The move from expert to participatory is particularly difficult since it causes one to reconsider who really is the expert when it comes to designing for the future (Sanders, 2001).
